The Corgi website just announced that the highly anticipated Limited 50th edition of the Spectrum Saloon Car has been delayed a bit.  

The SSC will now be available in November 2017, instead of October.

On exclusivity on FAB Live episode 8, which aired on the web earlier this week,  Jamie Anderson announced  that two brand new model replicas of 'Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons' vehicles would be released for the 50th anniversary of the show.  And for both models is a first ever release.

The Spectrum Hovercraft, seen in the episode "Traitor", will be set for pre-order later this month, with the MEV (Martian Exploration Vehicle), shown in the very first episode 'The Mysterons', will become available for pre-order later on.  Both models will eventually appear on the Official Gerry Anderson Store, so be sure to check often!

On the same FAB Live episode 8 in which the upcoming release of the Spectrum Hovercraft and the MEV was revealed, Jamie Anderson also announced the release of a limited, Special Edition of the 'Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons: the Vault' book.  This limited edition, of only 100 copies will be sporting a 'Captain Black' cover, instead of a 'Captain Scarlet' cover.  Each of these  copies will be numbered and signed by the author, Chris Bentley.  Because they are a collector's edition and are so limited, the price of course, is higher than the Standard Edition.

Big Finish Productions released some big news about their upcoming release of "The Spectrum Files", the audio adaptations of the three Captain Scarlet novels written by John Theydon in the 60s!

First news:  it was revealed that David Graham, the voice behind Thunderbirds characters such as Brains, Kyrano and most importantly Parker, Lady Penelope's chauffeur, will be narrator for the three audio books!   Mr Graham, long associated with Supermarionation productions (Most notably, he was the voice behind characters such as Brains, Kyrano and Parker in 'Thunderbirds, thus joins Wayne Forester and Liz Morgan who are performing the characters' voices in all three audio books.

Secondly,  Big Finish has released the final covert arts for the three audio books, with the first one now featuring the name of David Graham alongside those of his co-stars.  The three covers are shown below.  Big Finish credits each of the cover arts as created by Tom Newson (while an earlier report stated that the cover for 'Spectrum File One' was created by Oliver Arbour).

While Big Finish has not yet release an official synopsis for Spectrum File Two and Spectrum File Three, the audio books each adapt the novels 'Captain Scarlet and the Silent Saboteur' and 'The Angels and the Creeping the Enemy'. So for those of you who might not have read these books, you'll find, below the back cover blurb of each of these books, which were published in 1967:

Celebrating the 50th anniversary of 'Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons', Harrop Collectible Figurines created a brand new Captain Black figure based on the way the character looked in the 'Renegade Rocket' episode.

Back in May, it was announced that Fred McNamara's book would be released towards the end of 2017.

The successful CGI series 'Thunderbirds Are Go', remake of the very popular 'Thunderbirds' classic series will be back on UK television starting September 2017, with the second part of its second season. No specific date has been given yet.

In the meantime, tiles and synopsis of two episodes have hit the internet, although it is unsure at which point in the series they will exactly aired.  The two episodes, and their synopsis are as followed.

Power Play

International Rescue must save a hydro-dam when its turbines are pushed past their breaking point. Scott crawls inside the rescue the crew while Virgil and Gordon attempt to seal a growing crack in the dam.

Volcano!

Dr Quentin Questa has inaccurately predicted the eruption of a volcano for the last decade. This time, however, he invokes a special science code of honour that brings Brains out to his location. Brains discovers that Questa is right: the volcano is gonna blow!

Both episodes are also set to be aired in Vue Cinemas, as part of  a"Thunderbirds Day" event (see article below).

The Thunderbirds are Go! official website informs us that, following the success of 'Thunderbirds are Go!', a number of big names have been announced as voice guest stars in the upcoming episodes.  Mark Gatiss, writer and performer in the popular 'Sherlock' series, will star as Doctor Quentin Questa, in the 'Volcano!' episode listed above, and other stars will also be lending their voices to other characters. Actress Amelia Clarke, who plays  the Mother of Dragons Daenerys Targaryen  in the popular 'Game of Thrones' TV series, will voice Doyle, a 'resilient and courageous oil rig worker who stands up for what is right and allies herself with International Rescue' (episode unknown).  David Tennant, former star of 'Doctor Who', in which he played the 10th Doctor, will lend his voice to Tycho Reeves, 'a billionaire inventor much admired by Brains, who has some unexpected teething problems on the inaugural voyage of his superspeed Hypercar", which is is obviously a nod to 'Supercar'. The episode in which this character will appear is also unknown.

ITV Studios Global Entertainment are pleased to announce the first annual International Thunderbirds Day, taking place on 30th September 2017! 

This annual event will provide fans all over the world with a date to mark their love of the original 'Thunderbirds' TV series as well as its CIG remake 'Thunderbirds Are Go'. Why September 30th? Because it was on that date, in 1965, that the original ' Thunderbirds' series started to air on UK televisions.

To kick off the celebrations, ITV Studios Global Entertainment, partnered with Vue cinemas, announced across the UK of an exclusive screening of 'Volcano!' and 'Power Play', two brand new episodes of Thunderbirds Are Go, and 'The Abominable Snowman', one of the never before nationally screened episodes of 'Thunderbirds 65', produced last year by Stephen Larivière, in the style of the classic series, filmed in Supermarionation and using audio recordings starring the original cast.

Network will finally release in October the 'Space: 1999 The Complete Series'., a set of 10 blu-ray discs, containing all the episodes of series 1 and series 2, digitally restored from new High Definition transfers, in  newly remixed Dolby 5.1. English track, with optional English subtitles, in Region B/2, PAL format.   This huge DVD set, wrapped in a brand new cover art, also offers a bundle of special features, such as music-only tracks on many episodes, original 'as broadcast' mono track, Gerry Anderson commentary on selected episodes, text episode commentaries, image galleries, restored Series One textless titles, etc.  One episode from Series Two, 'Seed of Destruction', has also been given the Series One treatment

In the last months, Network had been releasing the Terrahawks TV series in three distinct  blu-ray volumes, in Region B/2.  Finally, next October, the series will be available in one complete blu-ray set.

The entire series is presented  for the first time in High Definition from the best available materials, in its original as-transmitted aspect ratio.

'Terrahawks: The Complete Series' in blu-ray is a set of 6 discs, and also contains special features such as brand new featurettes on the special effects, music and voice cast - including a cast reunion, the 'Terrahawks Story' documentary, original FX Trims, three audio episodes, images galleries, scripts in PDF format, and much more.The blu-ray set will be available on October 16, 2017. Gerry and Sylvia Anderson's shows were also popular in other countries and were translated in many languages at the time of their original airing. Through the years, many series have been released in various DVD sets in languages other than English. Such was the case for French DVD sets. On October 3, 2017, TF1 Studio will release in France new DVD sets of two of the most popular Gerry Anderson shows: Thunderbirds and Space: 1999.

The last release of the classic 'Thunderbirds' series in French dates back to 2001.  The new DVD set 'Thunderbirds - Les Sentinelles de l'air: L'intégrale de la série culte'. will be a 9 DVD box set which will contain the complete 32 episodes of the series in mono sound, full screen, PAL format, with both English and French soundtracks.  The new set will also contain the same material as the previous 2001 release: from TF1 and will come  under a new cover art.  You can preorder your copy from Amazon.fr.

As for Space: 1999, the last time the complete series was made available in French was in 2008, also from  TF1 Studio. 'Cosmos 1999 l'intégrale'.the new boxset, with a new packaging, will contain  13 DVD, with all the episodes of series 1 and series 2, in both English and French soundtracks (Dolby Digital 2.0), French subtitle and full screen, PAL format.  As far as we know, the DVD set contains the same bundle of extras as the previous version. A few days ago, Big Finish Productions released the cover art and sysnopsis for their audio album "Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons - Spectrum File 1".

Here's the synopsis:

A violent thunderstorm floods London. Florida is laid waste by hurricanes. Somehow the Mysterons are controlling the world’s weather, and only Spectrum can stop the devastation.
Captains Scarlet and Blue head into space aboard Fireball XL19 to destroy a weather-control satellite that has been taken over by the Mysterons – only to discover that the real cause of the destruction is much closer to home.
As Scarlet and Rhapsody Angel confront the mastermind behind the latest Mysteron attacks they discover the true scope of his plan, and if they cannot stop him then the Earth faces certain climatic catastrophe.

One of the four audio books release from Big Finish has received a boxset art! 

Big Finish had released photos of the officially title "Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons 50th Anniversary box set". That's the one that will contain the five original audio adventures from 1967 along with eight adapted stories taken from the TV series episodes.

As you already know, the boxset will be a 7-disc collector's limited edition deluxe box set.  The five audio adventures will be digitally remastered.  They are as followed:

Earlier in June, Big Chief has released another teaser of their upcoming "Captain Scarlet" replica, which should be released in time for the 50th anniversary in September. 

Big Chief also announced that the model will be available for pre-order "later this month".  This was in June, so there seems to be a slight delay for fans, before they will be able to order this fine piece of collection.

Just in time for the 50th anniversary,  the UK branch of Corgi announced the release of a brand new special edition rerelease of "Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons" Spectrum Saloon Car.

This model of the classic, very recognisable red patrol car - the SSC -   will come in a commemorative packaging.

Please note that, from the UK Corgi site, this product is only available to the following territories: UK and Ireland, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and South Africa.  However, for other countries,  you probably can expect collector's shops to be able to aquire this special item. 

The special edition SSC is expected to be available in September 2017.

Last month Network had announced the upcoming release of a blu-ray edition for the popular CGI series "Gerry Anderson's New Captain Scarlet".  This month, the cover is finally revealed, and it's a beautiful one!

The 3 discs set will contain all of the twenty-six 22-minutes episode of the 2005 remake of the classic series, in 1080 HD  1:78:1 resolution, in original English (5.1 stereo) and English subtitles. 

It is not known at this point if other languages will be included in the set, nor what the extras would be, if any.  However, at this point, we do know that fans from many countries around the world will be able to view this set on their home blu-ray player, as the discs will be in Regions A, B and C.

The recently released Summer Haynes catalogue reveals new details on their upcoming Captain Scarlet book, including its title and yes, its cover!

 Entitled "Captain Scarlet Spectrum Agents' Manual", the book is described as "a technical guide to Spectrum, the global security service of 2068, and features background information, history of its creation, profiles of leading agents, confidential details of Spectrum's most valuable weapons in the fight against the Mysterons, and fully annotated cutaway drawings of Spectrum and World Security vehicles and bases, plus the Mysteron Lunar Base. This manual finishes with comprehensive Mission Files, making it the complete and essential manual for all Spectrum Agents."

Written by Sam Denham and illustrated by Graham Bleathman, the book is set to be released in September 2017, in time for the 50th anniversary of "Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons".

2017 NEW YORK TOY FAIR: BIG CHIEF STUDIOS PRESENTS THUNDERBIRDS AND CAPTAIN SCARLET REPLICA FIGURES<

 

Big Chief Studios have BIG plans for Gerry Anderson shows!  At the New York Toy Fair earlier this year, they revealed some magnificent replica figures of Thunderbirds AND Captain Scarlet characters!   Initial plans from the studio  include the production of  highly detailed replicas of the five Tracy brothers (Scott, John, Virgil Gordon and Alan... but we don't have to name them, do we?) as well as Lady Penelope and Parker.  And there are plans to do Captain Scarlet as well.  The Big Chief stand at Toy Fair displayed stunning work-in-progress replicas, which are still subject for approval from ITV of some of the Tracy Brothers and of Scarlet himself (see picture, courtesy of  the Official Gerry Anderson Website

 

  Big Chief also plans to offer a range of cross-section vehicles and craft models - meaning that the models will be come with removable panels, which will permit to see the interior.

 

If all goes according to plans, Big Chief will be offering the replica figures and models through their own website, as well as through selected hobby and specialist retailers, including the Official Gerry Anderson Store.
